ABOUT US : Top-Tier Hip and Knee Care for 30+ Years

Dr. David Shau

A Message From the Fellowship Co-Director:

Dear Prospective Fellow,

I am honored and privileged to represent the Texas Hip and Knee Center (THK) as a Co-Director, along with Dr. Steven Ogden, of our Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship Program. Under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Schmidt, Program Chair and Founder of THK, this subspecialty practice, located in Fort Worth, Texas, has become a premier arthroplasty destination and referral center for North Texas and beyond. Despite not being formally associated with an academic institution, we are a tertiary referral center for hip and knee care. Our group has earned this community recognition and trust through a deliberate and keen focus on delivering quality care and partnering with those aligned with our vision over the past 30+ years. Through the generous support of Texas Health, we are excited to re-introduce our Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship Program and look forward to participating in the AAHKS/SF Match for the 2024-2025 application cycle.

It is our philosophy that the "perfect" fellowship program is one that can best fill any remaining "gaps" in your education and/or training. Whether that is fine-tuning a specific surgical approach, gaining familiarity with certain technology or implant systems, or learning complex reconstructive techniques, your year will be tailored towards your clinical and surgical goals. You will complete the program with enhanced knowledge, skillset, and confidence to allow you to thrive clinically. We operate at a world-class orthopedic subspecialty facility and have created a strong culture of excellence. Our practice is already a "well-oiled" machine, so we have the flexibility to minimize scut and maximize educational participation for our Fellow. We view our Fellow as a junior partner, who will be granted supervised graduated autonomy throughout the course of the year. Supplemental educational opportunities are abundant with industry courses, cadaver labs, and meetings (AAHKS takes place in our backyard). Furthermore, you will be in a central US location, ~25 minutes away from an international airport (DFW), allowing easy access for job interviews and/or family/leisure visits.

In summary, the Texas Hip and Knee Center, having trained numerous Fellows over the past 30+ years, including three faculty members who were previous Fellows, is perhaps the best kept secret of this year's AAHKS/SF Match. I am excited about what's to come, and I welcome you to explore what we have to offer.

Warm Regards,

David Shau, MD/MBA
